The Literary Revolution in Atlas Shrugged

by Dr. Andrew Bernstein

The novel, as the most conceptual of art forms, holds the potential to integrate a vast range of intellectual content, physical action and thoughtful introspection, an individual  protagonist and a host of secondary characters, plot and theme, reason and emotion, literary techniques and profound meaning. In Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand has actualized the full potential of the novel as a literary form.

This talk examines the specific means by which Ayn Rand synthesizes every conceivable literary element into a novel whose artistic integration is as complete as its grand-scale story (and philosophical scope) is vast.
