Laissez-faire Capitalism: The System of Freedom and Justice

by Dr. Harry Binswanger

In a brief opening presentation, Dr. Binswanger will summarize the case for laissez-faire capitalism as the morally ideal social system. These introductory remarks will serve as the basis for a discussion session devoted to questions and answers on the case for capitalism as well as Ayn Rand's philosophy, Objectivism. Unlike those who support capitalism merely on the grounds of its economic efficiency, Ayn Rand defends capitalism on the basis of morality—the morality of rational selfishness, which holds that each individual is an end in himself. Capitalism, Dr. Binswanger will argue, is the only system that establishes freedom, individual rights, and the reign of justice.
