The Iraqi Standoff
April 4, 2004

IRVINE, CA-- The bloody insurgencies we are facing today in Iraq are the direct result of the Administration's policy of waging an apologetic, appeasing, compassionate war.

For example:

· We entered Iraq apologizing for our presence, and ordered our soldiers to jeopardize their own lives rather than risk harming civilians.

· Until recently, we allowed killers sanctuary and weapons storage in mosques, fearful that attacking a mosque would be "offensive to local sensibilities."

· We have ruled out house-to-house confiscation of weapons as "too intrusive."

· We have allowed Baathist and Shiite killers de facto rule in the insurgent neighborhoods with the attitude of letting sleeping dogs lie.

· We have allowed expatriate religious fanatics to flood back into Iraq from Iran and thereby permitted armies of killers to join incipient dictators like Moktadr al-Sadar.

When we leave Iraq, we will likely see the emergence of an anti-American Islamic theocracy run by dictatorial Ayatollahs. The deaths of our courageous soldiers will have been in vain.
