Washington, D.C.--The second annual National Campaign in Defense of Industry--at over 40 college campuses--sponsored by CMDC and ARI, will climax with an Anti-Earth Day demonstration Sunday, April 22, at the Washington Monument, Washington, D.C.
The theme of this year's demonstration is "Open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to Oil Production." Environmentalists claim the development of ANWR would cause massive and irreparable harm to the Alaskan wilderness. "The only 'massive and irreparable harm' is to the truth," says Nick Provenzo, chairman of CMDC.
"Oil is the very lifeblood of modern civilization. As the environmentalists bleed dry the arteries of American commerce we lose the energy to meet our most basic needs. Killing oil development to preserve a desolate, ice-covered wilderness is an assault on human life." Provenzo added, "Science, industry, and capitalism have provided the material values that make all our lives longer, healthier, and happier. Yet today these fountainheads of progress are under attack by people who want us to crawl back to the horrors of the Stone Age."
CMDC and ARI are also holding a press conference at the National Press Club on Friday, April 20, 9:30 a.m., to explain their opposition to Earth Day.
