Who:    Dr. Yaron Brook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute

Since its founding in 1948, Israel has been under constant siege--courageously fending off the attacks of hostile Arab neighbors and terrorists. In a Middle East dominated by Arab monarchies, theocracies and dictatorships, Israel stands alone as the bastion of freedom in that region. Yet for decades Israel has faced growing international pressure--often led by the United States--to compromise with its enemies, and act against its own self-interest.

In this talk, Dr. Brook argues that the United States should reverse its long-standing policy and unequivocally encourage Israel not to compromise with its enemies and to act in its own self-interest--to rid the world of the terrorist regime of Yasser Arafat. For the sake of long-term stability in the Middle East, the U.S. must reject the very idea of the land for peace doctrine, and the idea that the Palestinians have a right to their own state. Israel's right to exist, rests on the fact that it was created as a free country that respects and protects (for the most part) individual rights--which certainly cannot be said of the Palestinians.
