Embryos Are Not People
By David Holcberg (Australia's Herald Sun, December 17, 2002)

All of us who value human life should applaud legislation just passed by Australia's Senate allowing researchers to harvest stem cells from human embryos.

Such legislation will free researchers in Australia to discover treatments for an immense variety of medical conditions, from diabetes to cancer to Parkinson's.

American legislators should avoid the trap of equivocating between human beings and human embryos and follow the example of their Australian counterparts. Embryos are not people, and treating them as if they were will result in sacrificing human beings for the sake of human cells.
