Thomas Bowden
Specialties: Legal issues, physician-assisted suicide, abortion rights, mandatory community service
Mr. Bowden, an attorney in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland, taught at the University of Baltimore School of Law from 1988 to 1994. Author of a booklet against multiculturalism, "The Enemies of Christopher Columbus," he has also published op-eds in the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, Philadelphia Inquirer, Portland Oregonian, Los Angeles Daily News, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Charlotte Observer. He is a former member of the board of directors of The Association for Objective Law, a non-profit group whose purpose is to advance Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, as the basis of a proper legal system. In that connection, Mr. Bowden has filed amicus curiae briefs in the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal for the Second and Third Circuits, challenging mandatory community service for high school students on legal and moral grounds.
 
Yaron Brook
Specialties: Finance, venture-capital, economics, business ethics
Dr. Brook is the president and executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute. As an entrepreneur, he founded three companies, including Lyceum International (a firm specializing in Objectivist conferences and distance learning courses) and BH Equity Research, a venture-capital consulting firm in San Jose, California. Dr. Brook has lectured extensively in the U.S. and abroad on issues related to finance, banking, regulation, corporate governance, and ethics. Dr. Brook was an assistant professor of finance at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, where he received numerous teaching awards.
 
Peter Schwartz

Mr. Schwartz is editor of Return of the Primitive (Meridian/Penguin), a collection of essays by him and Ayn Rand about irrationalism in today's culture. He is the author of The Battle for Laissez-Faire Capitalism and of Libertarianism: The Perversion of Liberty. He was the founding editor and publisher of The Intellectual Activist, a publication on political, cultural, and philosophic issues.
 
Tara Smith
Specialties: Ethics, political philosophy
Dr. Smith is associate professor of philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the author of Moral Rights & Political Freedom (Rowman & Littlefield, 1995), a book on individual rights, and the forthcoming Viable Values: A Study of Life as the Root & Reward of Morality (Rowman & Littlefield, December 1999). In addition to these books, Dr. Smith has published articles and lectured on such topics as self-interest, objectivity, affirmative action, business ethics, pride, justice, forgiveness, and romantic love. Dr. Smith has also presented seminars on clear thinking to businessmen.
