MARINA DEL REY, CA -- The Ayn Rand Institute (ARI) announced today the formation of the Committee for Naming Facts to support the awarding of an honorary Oscar to Elia Kazan at this year's Academy Award ceremony. The Committee plans to hold a demonstration of support of the Academy and Elia Kazan outside the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion during the March 21 ceremony.
"Elia Kazan helped make Hollywood and America aware of the truth about the Communist threat in Hollywood," said Scott McConnell, ARI director of communications and a member of the Committee. "The fact that Kazan testified about the danger of Communism should be applauded and honored. He is a man of integrity."
- The Hollywood Communists were members of the Communist Party.
- The Communist Party's mission, financed and directed by the Soviet Union, was the violent overthrow of the U.S. government, which, if successful, would have ended all freedom in America.
- The Hollywood Communists were enemies of free speech, who worked to bring about a political system that would have destroyed free speech along with all other freedoms.
- The Hollywood Communists inserted Communist propaganda into Hollywood films.
- The Hollywood Communists refused to condemn major Soviet atrocities such as the invasion of Poland and Finland and also supported Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1941.
- The Communist Party held inquisitions against Party members.
