U.N. Resolution Undermines War Against Terrorism
March 14, 2002
MARINA DEL REY, CA--The resolution introduced by the U.S. and passed by the U.N. Security Council calling for "a region where two states, Israel and Palestine, live side-by-side within secure and recognized borders" actually undermines the war against terrorism. Why? "Because it sponsors the establishment of a terrorist state," said Yaron Brook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute.
"Far from delivering peace to the region, the creation of a Palestinian state under Arafat's control will only strengthen terrorists who plot against Israel and the United States," explains Dr. Brook.
"Rewarding Arafat and the PLO for launching terrorist attacks against Israel sends the wrong message to the world. It sends the message that terrorism pays."
"The only legitimate reason to found a new state is to escape tyranny and secure freedom. Arafat's intentions, however, are not to establish a free Palestinian state, but a sovereign dictatorship to be used as a springboard for the total destruction of Israel and the spread of more terrorism against the U.S."
