United States and Israel Should Destroy, Not Support, Fatah Feb 8, 2007
Irvine, CA--President Bush has recently ordered the transfer of $86 million to arm and train members of Fatah, the terror group led by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. Israel, under pressure from President Bush, has already transferred $100 million.
The alleged reason for the transfer of funds to Fatah is to bolster the group's capability to fight Hamas, the Iran-backed terror group that won the Palestinian elections and is now fighting Fatah to consolidate its power over the Palestinian population.
"But this is perverse," said Dr. Yaron Brook, president of the Ayn Rand Institute. "The United States and Israel should not be financing or arming Fatah; it is a vicious anti-Western terrorist organization. Instead they should be destroying Fatah, along with Hamas and other terror groups in the region.
"The security of Israel and the United States depends on crushing terrorist groups and the regimes that support them. Israeli and U.S. policymakers must stop deluding themselves into thinking that their security can be achieved by supporting and negotiating with terrorist leaders like Abbas. Acting on such delusions will only increase the terrorist threat." ### ### ### Dr. Yaron Brook is available for interviews.
