Benefits of Building
a Career at ARI
In July 2002, when ARI moved to new
headquarters more than twice the size of our
former offices, we satisfiedfor the time beingour need for extra space to contain our growing
projects. This winter, in order to satisfy our need
for more talented employees to drive our projects,
ARI has created seven new jobswhich will
expand our full-time workforce by more than 25
percent.
Dr. Yaron Brook, executive director, noted:
"Despite a weak economy, ARI continues to
expand. Our employees are more productive
than typical workers elsewhere, but the problem
we have is that we're seriously understaffed. We
have more good ideas, more opportunities, than
we can take advantage of."
Debi Ghate, in-house counsel and human
resources manager, said that although finding
and training new intellectuals remains the
Institute's key goal, "to achieve our mission we
also need talented senior managers,
professionals, program coordinators and
assistants. We're now recruiting employees for a
wide range of positionsfrom a vice president
to a bookkeeping assistant-because, like other
corporations, we need skilled people to carry
out such jobs and support the work being done
by the intellectuals."
The Institute offers its staff values
unavailable elsewhere. All full-time employees,
for instance, are afforded paid time to attend one
class a semester at ARI's Objectivist Academic
Center. We have a sizeable lending library of
taped courses on Objectivism. Our policy on
paid time off is generous and includes special
allowances for staff to attend Objectivist summer
conferences.
Our staff also benefit from health and dental
coverage. Among other benefits, they have the
option of starting a retirement savings account
(similar to a 401(k) plan) to which the Institute
makes matching contributions. We offer our
staff manifold opportunities for training and
other forms of career development.
"Ours is a workplace with many successes
to celebrate, and working for us is demanding.
Our employees hit the ground running," said
Mrs. Ghate. She added: "In my view ARI is a
unique employer and the advantages of working
here-not to mention living in this area-are
definitely worth it." ARI is located in Irvine,
California, about 50 miles south of Los Angeles
and 80 miles north of San Diego.
