Novelist/Philosopher Ayn Rand was an uncompromising advocate of reason, which she understood is man’s basic means of survival. The philosophy that she originated, Objectivism, applies reason to every aspect of human life. “Reason on Campus” is a forum for students of Objectivism to apply a rational philosophy to the problems and issues that are relevant to college students today.

Reason on Campus
WELCOME TO REASON ON CAMPUS — the site where students — worldwide — who are interested in Objectivism can join a moderated email group to post and discuss their published or unpublished nonfiction writing.

Students are encouraged to submit articles, letters to the editor, essays or reviews that are well-argued and of wide appeal, and then to comment on one another's writings, offering constructive feedback when possible.

This site is specifically intended for student writers, which means that the writers are still in the process both of understanding Objectivism and of learning their craft. Their work should be judged accordingly. The fact that a piece is posted on the moderated email list does not imply that ARI agrees with or endorses any specific point or formulation in the writer's piece. The moderator simply screens posts to ensure that they are polite and on-topic.

Objectivism — which Ayn Rand called "a philosophy for living on Earth" — is a value only when it is used to shape your own life and that of the culture. When asked what one can do to fight for a better culture, Ayn Rand wrote "the answer is 'SPEAK' (provided you know what you are saying). . . . Speak on any scale open to you, large or small. . . . You can never tell when your words will reach the right mind at the right time. . . . Do not pass up a chance to express your views on important issues."

Reason on Campus is a forum to aid those who choose to speak. Now more than ever, it is important that advocates of reason make themselves heard in public debate, refusing to surrender our campuses to the irrational forces which have dominated them for far too long. So let your voice be heard on our forum and, crucially, in college newspapers across North America and the world.
